Navigating the dynamic landscape of hotel sales for almost 20 years across the world, I've weathered the challenges firsthand. Working tirelessly for smaller hotel companies, I often found myself grappling with the stark reality of limited resources and marketing power compared to larger chains and hotels.
The frustration of being underpaid and overworked while striving to secure business for my hotel was palpable. Despite pouring immense effort into proactive selling and uncovering opportunities, I frequently encountered roadblocks. Whether it was discovering that our meeting space fell short of client expectations or realizing that our hotel was already fully booked by transient reservations, or a revenue manager turning away an opportunity, the hurdles seemed endless.
Moreover, building strong relationships with customers only to see them lured away by larger competitors was disheartening. The disparity in sales and marketing prowess between smaller establishments and industry giants often left us at a disadvantage.
One memorable incident involved booking a significant conference, only to learn later that the hotel was undergoing renovations, necessitating the relocation of the event to another venue. This disruption not only caused logistical headaches but also resulted in the loss of my hard-earned incentive payout.
